People:myself

Duration: 13:00-15:00

Tide: HT at 14:00

Weather: sunshine little breezy

Bait: hardback crab

Rigs: simple sliding float to size 1.0 hook

Results: 1 Wrasse :)

Report: I'm completely clueless when it comes to sea fishing, done plenty of freshwater fishing in me day though, just moved to new home in galway city so decided a couple of months ago to get into sea fishing. Bought a sea angling book and thanks to this excellent website decided that my best bet to catch something from the shore would be to target wrasse, got some small hardback crabs at the beach on friday and headed out towards furbo beach on saturday, anyhoo arrived at 13:00 set up and on me second cast landed this wrasse below, I couldnt believe the fight out of him better then any freshwater fish ive ever caught, he rammed himself between two rocks took me ten minutes to get him out!! landed him and delighted with my first wrasse thought this was gonna be easy, stayed for another 2 hrs missed 2 more strong takes, i think the hooks werent the best the second lad i hooked lodged himself and bent the hook straight trying to heave him out, theyre mustad size 1.0 any recomendations for a better hook would be welcome, i dont think theyre sharp enough either. I left at three delighted with my first quasi-organised sea shore fishing trip. Can anyone recommend any good shore wrasse marks around galway i cant wait for the next lash at them.

Anyhow this is my first post so pardon my ramblings. no idea what weight he was thats one of those lidl fishing boxes i'd say he was around 35cms long any guesses??

Welldone on the wrasse, at that length I'd say 3lb or so.

A great fighting fish, and in my opinion not enough people target them.
