Press release apparently from the Green Party.

#1 Post by petekd »

Any other club secretaries or officials get the letter yesterday, apparently from the Green Party entitled "Press Release" with a Green party Logo on the top.

Letter goes on to describe their stance on angling, IE, that its cruel and they are dead against it. Not convinced its from where its supposed to be from as firstly, there is no address, contact numbers etc and no signature or clue as to who it was sent it out. Just doesnt ring true thats all, it may well be but it just doesnt seem right to me.

I spoke to Ed Davitt this morning of the Green Party and he confirmed to me that this letter was NOT sent out by the Green Party and they would look into the matter possibly issuing a press release to the contrary. If that is indeed the case, then it must have come from an animal rights organisation or similar. How do the rest of club secretaries etc feel knowing your names and addresses are being used by people on that side of the fence?

I will post a pic/draft of the letter tomorrow.

NB. No silly comments or animal rights activist bashing please on this thread, thats only going to be counter productive.

Silly stuff like this just undermines their position - very underhanded if not illegal to produce a document purporting to come from another source and use their logo/letterhead.
Whatever people feel about the rights/wrongs of their argument, tactics like this just serve to make them look foolish and immature.
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

The Conservation officer of the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers would be very interested indeed in getting a copy of that letter.
If anyone has one could you please email him. His addy is in the Diary.

To me it sounds like some one trying to do damage to the green party rather than animal rights activists.

In hindsight Donagh, I would say I agree. It seems to be a mechanism of putting them on the spot and attempting to extract an official opinion on the matter.

i agree they look foolish and immature,if they want their voice heard let them stand up like men and say who they are and then state their argument

As a former and very active member of the Green Party (I resigned May '08) and one who voted against FF-coalition, I'm not surprised that someone should, quite disgracefully, seek to damage the party. Whilst admittedly some of its zanier fringe members and supporters may hold extremist, animal activist tendencies, it is downright irresponsble and possibly illegal (as posted by others on this thread) to engage in this kind of supterfuge. My suspicion is that it is indeed someone seeking infantile revenge and damage. I don't agree that the party is beyond damage; but it is beyond this type of anti-democratic behaviour.
