Fanad rocks and pier 15.06.09

#1 Post by last cast lad »

People:me and mick

Duration:8.00pm-1.00am

Tide:high at 11

Weather:FLAT CALM

Bait:fresh mackeral and dead rag

Rigs: pulley & 2hook flapper

Results:mackeral, pollack, coalfish, dogfish, thornback ray

Report: Had arranged to meet mick on monday night to thow a line, it seems he did actually mean night and not eveneing, so I was in Fanad early and had 2 hrs to kill before meeting mick so I headed down to the lighthouse rocks with just a spinning rod and a few lures, lovely sunny warm evening for it and even picked up a few fresh mackeral for bait at the pier, as well as a couple pollack and coalfish(no bigger than 3/4lb)so that started my evening nicely.
Arrived on the pier about 10.00 to find a tourist from Dublin fishing with his wee lad who spent his time pulling in double shots of doggies for about an hour before I caught anything. We set up casting out over the back wall which meant we had to climb up onto the pier wall to haul up our catch(note to self: remember to bring a stepladder for granda Mick next time ) but at least we had nothing too big in fact all the thornbacks were below average for that pier, although they did rise above baby size as the night wore on :)
Mick wanted to stay all night but I had work this morning and the doggies were begining to take over so he agreed to call it a night.
It ended up Me 7 dogfish, 3 thornback ray
Mick 9 dogfish, 3 thornback ray
Dublin guy similar, though it felt like his wee lad was catching as many doggies as the rest of us put together :!: well done on the doubles
