Mullet problems!

#1 Post by wilky83 »

I am fishing in an estuary near my house there are loads of fish present i know some are bass due to having caught a few here, the others appear to be mullet but i have tried on a few occasions to catch these fish but they dont seem interested in the bread i offer i put some on the surface and on the bottom but with no look. I use a crystal waggler float and somtimes the fish nose this around but pay no attention to the bread flakes :( :(
Could this be a problem with my method or rig?? I use 8lb line connected to a foot of 6lb berkely flurocarbon and size 8 or 10 hooks.
Also the days i have tried have been as the tide is turning to going out and it has been sunny and warm could it be that the mullet are not feeding as the tide is starting to run out or the warm weather turns them off??
All suggestions will be warmly recieved, and applied with hopefully more luck than the last few days :( :(

how big are the mullet.

size 12 hook with a polyball and 3 or 4 whote maggots on the hook do well, barbed hoioks are best.

i use a bubble float and about 4 feet of 8lb flurocarbon to a size 4 or 6 owner pint hook. use big hooks man. big is good. aside from that, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with what you are doing, keep going with it. and only use floating bread, that way you can see when they take it.

if there is any number of mullet in the area, there is always at least one that is curious/stupid enough to take the bait.

On one particular estuary that I fish I arrive at the start of the flood and ground bait immediately and the mullet will usually find the bread as they creep up on the tide and start to feed. I can then hold them in that area and fish for several hours no problem.
However I have found that if I miss the start of the flood and arrive after the tide has entered the estuary the mullet are much more difficult to get on the feed and quite often wont feed at all.
This only relates to this one mark your spot may be similar.
