Was on the way back through Roundstone earlier and stopped of at the pier to see if there was any mullet cruising around.... inside the pier was a sickening sight i counted well over 30 Ray on the bottom upside down being picked at by crabs and small fish there was what looked like a 14lb spur dog or tope on its back also... the ray were all decent size too i'd say they were around the 6lb mark was a really deflating sight....

Apparently they are targeting thornback ray and spider crab with the tangle nets, landing 10-15 boxes of ray a day. We missed it, but the fisheries board RIB was on the scene shortly after we finished the comp, checking the nets to make sure they were legal and not targeting salmon. Unfortunately, thats all they can do as tangle nets are not illegal.
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!
And then ppl wonder why there is a decline is certain species, mod edit: Whilst a commercial activity remains legal (although we may not like it,) on this site we don't promote/encourage acts of illegality/direct action against such commercial operators. Tanglerat
