fahan beach

#1 Post by minty »

People:me and a load of lads from gadsac

Duration:2.00-8.00

Tide:low

Weather:sunny with a storm thrown in

Bait:rag, mack and squid

Rigs:pennel pulley, pulley and 3 hook flappers

Results:3 thornie's :D :D a starfish and a baby squid

Report:Had a club comp at Fahan beach and arrived about 2ish, after a quick chat with a few of the lads and meeting fishermannum1 for the first time ( cheers for the advise ) i headed to peg 26 :x . After setting up a base camp i got a bait in to the water as i'd an hour or so to kill till the start of the comp. First cast and i was rewarded with my 1st ever thornie :D :D that weighed in at 3lb 12 :D :D ( a PB ). Not long after the comp was under way i got the 2nd which i weighed at 4lbs 14( new PB ). Things slowed a bit as used the 3 hook flapper rig, but when i swapped back to the pennel pulley i was in again :D this time tipping the scales at 2lbs 10 :D . from then on in i was was getting steady bites but no hook-ups :x .when i was reeling in to re-bait i landed a starfish and again later a baby squid which was due'ly rehooked and used as bait.... All in all a nice day was had and 3 new species and beating my PB thornie :D

congrat's on the pb minty :P :P great stuff!!!! it was nice to meet and have a chat with you,
i only had the one ray :P and two droped :x but it was the first session i'v had in a while so i was just glad to get out and wet a line again. i seen a few ray being got along the beach with a guy down to my left getting a double, also seen a few dogies coming in, there was also reports that a few mackerel were being got. was talking to al and jordan, guys to the left and right of them were catching but they were not having any luck, but there was still a few hours to go yet.
the worse bit of the day was the thunder storm    jes; it was a bad one, at one time it was right above the beach. most guys ( lucky gitt's )  got into their beach buddys as the rain and then hail stones hammered down on us, but when i seen the fork lighting hitting the beach a few times    i nearly s**t myself we were waiting for someone to get fryed. but half an hour later the sun was out again 8)

well done on getting 1 don, that beach is some spot, looking forward to getting a chance to hit it again. i nearly s**t myself as well when the lighting started, my beach buddy was upside down for a while with me just sitting on the box like a stranded cat  when the winds picked up

cheers man, not the handiest place for me but it was worth the drive, i would recommend it
youngrod wrote:nice going andcongrats on the thornie. did the starfish and squid count

no lad the starfish and squid were just a little bouns for me, i actualy thought the squid head i was using as bait had come back to life at first  then i realised that a baby one had latched to the hook

Paddy

you should get a race up there if you get the chance, i'd have been happy to get 1 as i'd never seen one up close but the fishing gods were looking after me on this trip, or maybe i'm just having a bit of luck. whatever it is i hope it continues :D
saltydog wrote:Congrats on the your first thornies and two PB's in a day sweet 8)

cheers man, this the first time i've really weighed a fish as i only got the scales on saturday, never really caught much that would need to get weighed
