East Coast Raiders MA#4 wicklow north beach 13/6/09

#1 Post by eric »

People:eric,dbrock,wayne reilly,fishaholic,tonyfella,bigsod,shaneh,rodger de dodger,croppyboy

Duration:6-11pm

Tide: the drop

Weather:gusty southerly clearing to a mill pond

Bait:all sorts

Rigs:clip downs and flappers

Results:tub gurnard,dogs,plaice,whiting,dabs

Report:with reports of huge numbers of doggies about, hopes where high of for a busy comp, when they failed to show in the expected numbers i think everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
i decided to go for three sandeel at distance, with one tipped off with rag, as luck would have 15min later i was reeling a lovely 23cm counting plaice! next a dog and the following cast a double dog, this was going to proove to be a busy comp, however only a few of lads where catching, most where struggling to find the fish, alby up on the top peg was bringing a fish every cast and was begining to take a steady lead. all of a sudden the fishing went off the boil, and it became very scratchy. another dog came in for me after two blank casts to lift the spirits, which was followed by an undersize dab.
the other end of the beach was now experiencing the wrath of a mackerel shoal, and as i looked down i saw fishaholic was reeling in fresh bait
i decided as it was scratchy to leave the primo on the spare rod stand and take out the fixed spool jobby and scratch for a few flats. after 5min the rod was hoping out of the stand, sure enough 10min later i reeled in a treble, a dog and two dabs. savage i went out again and was rewarded with a whiting-dab double. i looked up to notice alby taking his dh out and started at the same craic, denis who was also in the running was having none of this mini fish fiasco and stuck at the dogs which was to prove the winning factor. i added at least a fish a cast for the rest of the comp, including a lovely little tub gurnard! running up and down the beach like a lunitc getting fished signed in left me wrecked still i was happy when it was over.
back to the van for the results and denis was the runaway winner with 1040 pts, having caught 17dogs, and a load of others small whiting and dabs,

pos---name---no of fish--pts
1st---denis----35------ 1040
2nd---alby-----37------ 867
3rd---eric------36------- 829

longest round- mark sinnot- 30cm tub gurnard
longest flat- tied---eric gasparro and fintan kavanagh- 23cm plaice

thanks again to viking tackle for the prizes!!
