Dalkey Rock Mark 10/6/09

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

Me, Eric and Roger de Dodger

7-10.30

Tide right out at 7, huge sea bound rip

Rag, mack, sand eel, peeler, squid

All sorts off rigs, two hook flappers, minis, clip downs, floats

Dead flat, little wind, the occasional drizzle

Me: 1 dog, 1 corkwing wrasse, 1 shore rockling, 1 whiting. Eric: A bunch of small wrasse and one big fellah, dogs, couple of whiting and dabs. Roger: Dogs, whitings, dabs

Eric had tales of multiple species, so I jumped at chance of a new mark. I didn't like the sound of "only accessible at low tide" also Eric turned up in Waders!, but it was a great spot, a lot of rocks to hopped. We all set up with rods at distance and had smaller rods for various.

I think Eric and Roger both started with a whiting dog double each, I was still futering around setting up my float. I got a wrasse on the float just at my feet feet. Eric was on a wrasse hunt in the kelp and caught a beauty that gave him a great wrestle on a light spinning rod.

You can lead a horse to water but Cormdogg cannot catch a dab! Both Eric and Roger had one at little effort. Dogs were coming in steady, it was battle to get them over the kelp beds and over the rocks, I lost three but sure thats fishing.

I put out a mini rig hoping for a good wrasse but got a rockling shortly before the tide consumed us.

We decided to head to Colliemore in the hope of conger but the three of us had all forgotten our headlamps so that was abandoned. I hung on to cast a few feathers but nothing about, I got a whiting on my mini rig so that signalled home time.

Always enjoyable to fish a new mark, thanks to Eric and Roger and Erics Tripod for finely balancing 3 beach casters!

I feel sorry for that poor Wrasse, its bad enough been pulled up out of the sea,but to find yourself face to face with that mush, im sure he preferred to be hit on the head and take a quick death. Nice session .
