Colimore 2nd June Bray 3rd June

#1 Post by beebub2 »

People: me & Stephen8wood

Duration: 8.30 – 11.30

Tide: High at about 9pm (I think??)

Weather: flat calm, a little breezy to start but it calmed

Bait: rag, mack, feathers

Rigs: tinsel mack rig, feathers, 2 & 3 hook flappers

Results: Colimore: Diddly Squat. Bray: me: 2 Dabs, 1 Rockling (f**ked if I know how many beards), 3 whiting, 1 Pollack. Stephen: 1 Eel, 2 dabs, 4 whiting

Report: Night 1 I was in Colimore on the right hand pier and had about 15 mins of fishing when I got a call from home to say the middle fella was upstairs with an empty bottle of Calpol in his hands. Rushed home to find the full bottle with its lid firmly attached downstairs and the bottle the nipper had was the one which was already empty. Phew!! Didn’t fancy a trip to Tallaght. If you were passed by a lunatic driver in Dun Laoghaire and feared for you life I can only apologise! Stephen stayed on and blanked by all accounts.

Night 2 was a nice little session. Lovely evening for it. Had a look at Colimore and it was packed. The wall was lined with rods without a spare inch and there were 4 people on the right hand pier where 1 person has just about enough room at the best of times. From the gap Sorrrento rocks looked to be equally hectic so I ventured on to Bray. Set up at the end of the pier closest to Bray beach and spun for a while. Nothing doing unfortunately but it was nice watching the boats come in. Once dusk hit and the boats were gone we started to cast off the end with bait. The usual suspects of fish bit and all went back; including a nice looking eel caught by Stephen inside the harbour wall (I think, maybe Stephen will verify). He was only small, maybe 3 feet long.

I saw at least one beard sticking out of the bottom of the rockling’s mouth. I read here that if you rub its mouth you’ll be able to reveal how many other beards remain hidden away. In the words of my good friend Stephen, who seems to have an unnatural dislike of the humble rockling or ‘sea mouse’ as he calls them; ‘it’ll be a cold day in hell before I rub a rockling’s mouth for whatever reason’. With that, I decided not to prolong the rockling discussion any further and threw him back. I’m assuming it had 3 beards as I’ve never heard of a one beared rockling (I assume he’d just be called a beared rockling as there would be no point in counting just one beard!)
Species 2010 (12) Whiting (40), Coalfish (4), Pollack (9), 3 bearded Rockling (1), Codling (4), Ballen Wrasse (1), Pouting (1), Dab (4), Alien (1), Red Gurnard (2), Tub Gurnard (1), Mackerel (35)
