Dillions Park, Dalkey, 2/6/09

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

People: Just me

Duration: 2.30pm to 6.30

Tide: flooding

Weather: fine

Bait: rag, mack

Rigs: 2 hook flapper, float, 3 hook clipped down

Results: 7 ballan wrasse, 4 corkwing wrasse, 1 whiting, 1 pollock, 1 rock goby ?

Report:

After getting sunburned over the weekend on the front of my body, I thought this afternoon was a good time to get my back done

The area was busy when I arrived so I did a bit of rock hopping and found myself a decent enough platform to fish from, sent the float setup out first, then put a basic 2 hook flapper out with size 8's looking for some mini's.

Didnt get a touch on the float for the 1st hour, and as the tide rose, it was getting difficult to fish it, so I packed that away and put a 3 hook clipped rig out, 10 mintues later a whiting, that was a sign to put that rod away for the remainder of the session.

First in on the mini's rig was the goby, I think its a rock goby, but I'm sure others will confirm/advise whether this is right or not. There was then a steady stream of small wrasse the biggest being 1lb 7oz (yeh, I got to try out my new scales :D ). As the tide was filling around me, it was time to move to a drier spot, then opps.....a slip  wet feet, and a gashed elbow and shin - it wouldnt be rock fishing without it though hey

Shifted upto a spot that had been vacated, and set up the mini's rig again. Action was slow, a few missed bites, but no hookups. A few lads to my right were getting whiting and dabs fishing at 50 yards or so, but I resisted the temptation to do the same and persisted with my tactics. I finally got a fish after what seemed like ages, another small wrasse. I had been hoping for a pollock to add to the species list for the year, and thankfully it didnt take too long to catch, taking a thin strip of mackerel on the top hook. A couple more wrasse were caught, and then I lost the rig to a snag, couldnt be bothered setting up again, so it was time to head home for pizza and stella

A bit of bait left over, so guess who's heading out again tomorrow, gonna try for my 1st plaice of the year 8) again
