what 25lb multi?

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

what 25lb multi?

#1 Post by Donagh »

I am looking for a multiplier for 25lb line. 525 is to small and 30L is to big. I was thinking of either the 535gs or the SL20. Not sure of the line capacity of either but i was thinking they are between these two. Any opinions?

Thats primarily a boat reel and I am looking for a shore reel. Its also a big step up in price.

I am really looking at either a SL20 or a 535 gs. Which would be better?

i have a sl20sh x which is really just the normal sl20 with gold bits. its a really nice casting reel, and its held up fine the 3 years i have had it.

i would be a bit worried about the line capacity though, it doesn't hold a great deal of 25lb line, it holds enough that i can hit about 120 yards with it but there isn't much left after that.

i think the 535gs might be the better reel here just because it holds more line.

Hope this helps

I will be bulk buying from veals and they dont have the the centrafugal option of the saltest as far as I can see. Theres a fair old price mark up for reel that will be smashed around the rocks by me.

I would rather the reel to be to big then to small as my clunky leader knots for rough ground get caught when fully loaded. I wasnt sure what size the 535 capacity was. Its on the veals website as 400 yards (366ms I think) for 15lb line and the SL30 is 265M for 0.45mm line.

If the 535 is bigger I think it has still has a lower profile on the rod is that correct?

I am more used to the penn power handle as well. I find it difficult to get back used to the SL30 when I pull it out for the rough stuff.

have em both donagh if you want to use either next time we are out no prob at all. Sl20 would hold very little 25lb (ive got 15 on mine) but is probably my favoutite reel bar the 525. 535 is a real winch aswel

Veals came back to say the line capacity of the SL30 and the 535 around the same. Going to go with the 535gs.

Thanks for your help lads

Not sure if you purchased yet but for what its worth I have both as well and much prefer the Slosh30. Its more user friendly and casts much better. The 535 might sit down on the rod a little lower but the slosh is nicer to fish with. My slosh holds enough 20lb for mack fishing from Dunlickey!

I agree with sean i have had both the slosh 30 and the penn 535 and the one i still have today is the slosh 30, found the slosh 30 to be a much better casting reel and got rid of the 535.

I got the 535 on Tuesday but I haven't tried it out. SL30 is a fine casting reel especially off the cliffs for macks. First impression of the 535 is it has much more a solid build and I'm happier with the handle . It seems more boat like as a reel. I'll might see how it casts over the weekend.

I was thinking of going for one of these reels too but i'm looking to target tope aswell as conger so will need something that can cast fairly well. I was looking at the 535 Mag. Has anyone used one or have any opinions on this magnetically braked version? I don't think there's a magnet-braked slosh is there?

dawia saltist 20 h
all the way, an excellent reel and once again from daiwa it cast straight from the box, if anything i recon it was a bit slow, but i guarantee in daiwa fashion there are 2 big red break blocks in there,

this reel sits amazing on the rod to let anglers with small hands get a grip, well worth a look

have 3 reels loaded with 25lbs.. mag 535, sl20 and sl30.. all cast well but the cranking power of the sl20 and sl30 just cant be beaten..

and for shore the sl20 being a bit smaller will give perfect balance while using heavier lines, plus i've never had a birdie on the sl20/sl30 yet..
