Co. Limerick, 24th-may-2009

#1 Post by Donagh »

People:Me

Duration:9:30am till 1:30pm

Tide:ebb to LW

Weather:SW breeze turning west for last hour. Strong SW winds the night before had made the water silty

Bait:Mack, squid sand eel

Rigs:Pulley penels 2/0 to 4/0

Results: 4 dogs, a 9lb 5oz thornback and a 21cm dab

Report:
Fished down from where I usually fish. Had a doggy on my first cast to sand eel just as I was going to pull in at 20 yards out. Got 4 bites after that resulted in one more dog at close distance. Missed a few bites from dogs to sand eel/squid through the session that I put down to longer snoods of my pulleys and larger hooks aimed at ray and some of my home made grips could be releasing to easily.

Things quitened down so brought mack/squid combos out with the 4/0s and had the ray close in around quarter to 11 around 30 yards out. Quite enough until Gearoid and weirdfish popped by to say hello. I had two bites with 1 dog landed while they were there. The missed bite was a slack liner that the lead didn't do it's job on hooking the fish. I got couple more bites around 1pm with another dog to show for it. Another bite locked up and would not move at any angle. I left it slack and after a few minutes it came back with a simple pull but with no fish just a twisted snood signifying a strap. Had the dab on a 3/0 penel of squid mack near the end. Was out of bait and hungry for my dinner so went home but I'd say my usual spot here would of produced a few ray on the early flood as silted weedy water with a strong pull is great here.

Great session Donagh. Just the same time that I wanted to go out as well. Just got held up due to the opening round of the French Open! Where in Limerick is this spot?
