clifden bay co galway 23 may 2009

#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

People:myself and fr05t for a few hours

Duration:13.00 to 23.15

Tide:high 17.08 5.0m low 23.10 0.7m

Weather:sunny with light wind

Bait:squid,sand eel,crab,razor,lug,limpets,feathers

Rigs:various

Results:blank

Report:first spot i tried was a spot that i got a few nice pollack last year thought it might be good for wrasse as well so set up a float with limpets and also tried feathers but noting happening so decided to walk the coast to look for a few good fishing spots, came across a nice quite spot to set a few crab traps so if ye have any ideas for crab traps let me know
also saw a few limpets missing from the rocks, might be a sign that there are wrasse around

after walking for a mile i met up with fr05t and set up beside him,we both had a few small bites here but noting hooked ,nice to have some one to chat to while fishing
when the tide started going out the water started to get very black
after fr05t headed home i move out the bay to see if the water got any cleaner but was the same,i put out a line anyways and had a great bite, nearly knocked the rod over but noting on the line  one of those days
the south side seems to be fishing better then the north side of the bay at the moment as you can see in spindlefist report viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21469 they was fishing the same time as me

i admire your perseverence, heres a couple of tips on fishing clifden bay, 1- forget it if there has been a flood and especialy if the wind is anywhere from east to north west, 2- the bay always fishes best on neap tides,3- any of the points from the old diving board to the mouth of the bay opposite the white lady will produce pollock, coalies mackerel, ray , dogs, and flatties further out,4-- the stretch from the hawks nest to boat harbour is probably the most productive in terms of species. there is another mark at the end of the faul road and about 50 yards to the right that will produce good catches of ray and dogs.
hope this might save you another blank :!: :!:
