How to Catch Mini's??

#1 Post by steveoel »

Just to Wrack your Brains one more time lads!! :D
Im interested in getting my Species count up and was wondering how you fish for mini fish such as tadples and sea scorpions and the like??
What type or rigs, bait and the like do you use??
What type of areas do you fish??

Any help would be great,

Steve

Small hooks & small baits.

Fish below your feet either down the side of the pier or between the rocks!

The rigs couldn't be any simpler, I just use a one hook flapper with the snood tied on to the main line with a 4 turn water knot and a 1oz bomb. I usually have a bunch of little hooks in the bag, even some of my coarse fishing ones for the really small stuff. Then simply drop it between between boulders, a few feet out from rocks / pier wall or where ever you are fishing. I've a little 7' Ugly Stick rod that I use for this kind of stuff and the great thing about it is that it has a sensitive tip to spot the little bites but still plenty of backbone should you hook something decent. I bring that little rod every time I go fishing and I can't tell you how many blanks it has saved.

really simple- light spinning rod or coarse tackle- verry small to small hooks (size 16-6)- any worm or fish baits very small baits- fish down the side of any harbour wall will chuck up plenty of minis like shannies, most other goby species.

OR

if you are fishing a sandy bay use simple coarse fishing waggler tacktics for sand gobies and small flatties.
