Savage Bass Treatment

Hi all
As i have said in my orevious post i am very new to the sport and am loving the site and learning loads from it.
As such i have been sure become aquainted with the laws around Bass and have been dying to catch one as i heard they are great sport. (Catch and Release of course).

On Sunday the 10th of May i went to the SPA in Tralee to try my luck. As i arrived i seen a guy walking from the beach with a bucket and rod. So i decided to ask how he got on.

In very broken english he explained he had caught four Bass and showed me four tiny bass in the bucket. The biggest of which was about 20cm im guessing.
I tried to explain that he couldn't do this but he headed off fairly quick with a few chocie words.

Any advice for this situation?????

P.S I blanked at the mark, typical!!!!!!

taking a few photos usually drive lads like that mad,ie.photograph him,his car/reg,the baby fish etc.but when he loses the plot youll have to deal with him yourself because the overpaid,underworked authorities couldnt give a shite,as ive found out on numerous occasions.

caution in these circumstances as they can get nasty if you are on your own!
your health first.
i have the eastern region fishery board no. in my phone for occasions like this.
but as steve said yer man was heading off.
good to point out to him he was wrong to keep the fish and regular pressure will help
but a quick call to the fishery board and a discreet pic or two even to pinpoint hotspots
for fishery officers to patrol!!!
it's us anglers that help/manage rules of fishing.

Bit frustrated as it seemed to me that the guy was unhappy with his catch. Seemed to me he had fished the same spot before and had walked away with even more fish.

As i mentioned in another post maybe it would be an idea to put a petition together and have everyone sign it online, to state our atance on the illegal catch of bass. Maybe we can shout loud enough to get someone to sit up and take notice, Viva la revolution.

Or even a stick to post pictures of guys cathcing bass out of season, undersize or with too many??

i dont think telling tell him he is a bold boy is going to make one blind bit of difference in the future if he wants to take undersize bass he is going to and ringing the fisheries board to report it will probably mean having to wait around for a week to 10 days for a response like what happened in Wexford recently so you better hope he has a good supply of lug and crab with him while you wait round for the boys to turn up with the handcuffs..........

Unfortunately it seems that there is very little a person can do in these situations.
Without proper backing it seems the situation is grim.

Its all about pointing out to him that what he is doing is not accepted behaviour eventually he might come round. If you take photographs you could be looking at some sort of confrontation. I cannot see anything else the op could have done.
I think giving out to the guy taking undersized fish could work more often than you would think. As long as he is not doing it for money.

If you as a private citizen want to do anything, walk the beaches at low tide and look out for nets or people setting nets. if you can photograph them and if you can get car regs, good. the fisheries officer would have a chance to catch them when they are taking the nets out they might be more likely to do something.

Be aware if you are spotted that you might get back to your own car to find its tyres slashed or on fire (no good deed goes unpunished).

on the up side it is very possible that the person who eats fish from around the SPA will be poisioning themselves with heavy metals. Companies like Kingdom tubes that were in Tralee would have dumped effluent into the bay via the sewerage system before the days of any sewage treatment was carried out. He may have taken some undersize fish but there is a chance that he will die horribly ......

balance is restored to the universe.

there may be a happy ending to this story after all

I have to say the more i read about Trawlers, Nets, Razor being dragged from the seabeds and the damage being done the more i feel sickened by the lack of work being done by the relevent agencies that are supposed to enforce protection laws.

What is wrong with the world? Or is it me?
I'm open to any critism of my comments but i feel that there is not half enough being done. Where are the law enforcers?? If i can see bass being caught and kept by the bucket both in and out of season in broad daylight in wide open public areas why can't the enforcers??

theres plenty of politicians calling to doors at the moment. bring up your points to them. i intended to, along with a few other local issues but ive missed 3 of them so far. i just want to meet one of them. if enough people bring up the same issues they will try to help. not cos they will want to, but because it could mean a few votes for the sake of them making one phone call.

as much as id like to disagree with you captain AHAB, i cant. BUT, if your friendly with your neighbours get them to bring up your points, and for you to bring up theirs. the more something is brought up to these guys(and gals) the more chance of them doing something. a phone call to the fisheries board from a politician will mean a lot more than from a member of the public.
thats all these guys have to do, make one phone call. surely they will do it if it means votes. just tell them that the next time you know of nets, undersize hauls, you will be ringing them. if something is done, they can count on your vote and youll let your local angling comunity know what they did. if not, dont call to your door again. simple as that.

myself and my wife met a few of them at our door when they were around last and said the same things to them all regarding an issue we had. to be fair, one of them was very helpfull and couldnt have done enough. needless to say he got both our votes, plus, our familys votes. the rest promised us the world, they had our landline and both mobiles and they never even rang back.

Being honest
imo i believe that the scum calling door to door will promise you the world at the moment, but ask for something on the 6th of june and see the answer you would get,
However thats just the nature of politics it seems.

As for the topic i think the negitive thoughts i have been having about the people who catch and keep bass have caused bad Karma for me
I accidently caught a bass recently(During the Ban ) on bare feathers while jigging for mackerel. Nearly broke me neck getting him back into the water as fast and with as little stress as possible.
