#1 Post by jock »

Hi All
can any body tell us, is there fish out there????been out from Kilmore Qy 4th April & 9th May Clew Bay
bait on board was plenty, Mackerel/Squid/Crab/Rag/Lug/ and only catching doggies, is it really this bad or is it us, with the cost of the boat hire & B&B's we are getting mad with our results,,,,,,,
we are blaming skippers/tides/everyone maybe except ourselves,

Fished Kilmore in the Leinster League Boat 2/3 weeks ago. Fishing was slow enough then too. On my boat 16 fish I think won the first session and something similar won the second. Thats poor for Kilmore Quay. Just the time of year, thats all, it will pick up.

Wrasse were coming in fits and spurts, pollack were hard to come by and were hugging tight to the bottom on the day that was in it. 2 or 3 dabs, an octopus and one little ling made up the rest of the days catch on our boat. 2 post irish team lads on my boat too so it certainly was nothing to do with the standard of angler.

Welcome Jock, You could had a more cheerful 1st post

I would think its mainly down to water temp. April is still winter in sea terms. It is normally mid to end of May before the water inshore breaks into double figures. There was a distinct lack of cod along the south coast again this year, it makes for a long winter.
