i do a bit of spinning during the summer, but i was just wondering is spinning over rough ground at this time of year any good? what species if any are you likely to encounter?

I wouldn't recommend this method at this time. Your better off to wait till around april when the summer species like mackerel and pollack start coming in numbers. Try a german sprat type lure , feathers or the storm shads. In some areas of ireland mackerel don't arrive till late july/august.

5 lbs. Pollock caught spinning from rocks behind Carrigaholt Pier, Clare last week on Bass Bullet.
See Specimen Fish Report 2004 Bass 5.6kgs. from Inch Feb. 2004 on Toby.

cheers lads, all i needed was a bit of encouragement. i knew it was a bit to early for the pollack, but i'm also getting tired of freezing my hands off watching the rod tip waiting for a few small whiting. will summer ever get here fast enough?
