Fished what turned out to be a stormy old sea on Saturday with m.b3. Surprised how much swell there was out there.
Fished just up from the dinghy club in Sutton to start with on a falling tide, but nothing going. Dug some bait for the afternoon session and then scrambled down to the split rock. We were getting soaked from the spray of waves crashing up the split and didn't feel too comfortable, so decided to move to Webbs. After several hours, we were just about to move to a different spot to be more comfortable and I pulled in a codling of 2lb plus. Now fishing with renewed vigour, we tried for the remainder of the day, but only managed a small codling which went back with a sore throat, but otherwise ok.
Fished Dollymount for the low tide, but nothing going, so moved back to split rock from 3pm onwards, but blanked. A few bites, but nothing coddy looking.

Lovely fish ID pearl I knew web's was a top cod mark the first time I fished it, with SOD pulling in those reds. The bridge is getting dodgy though , must set up some Lion's Head esque rope for safety. How long do you think until the majority of these cod leave here? Obviously there will still be reds.

just a guess but i'd say there're here nearly all year round. cod seem to move in here and take up residency, taking on the red hue. i have caught red cod from other marks in early may. i pressume it is the same here, if not even earlier as the mark is quite deep. calm, clear seas best for red cod from rocks. similiar conditions also good for wrasse.
