hard wearing chest waders
Im looking for a good pair of chest waders, that would be very hard wearing.I had a pair of ron thompson crosswater and they have a few leaks after only 4 months use.was thinking of the ocean ones as i have heard they are long lasting and durable.any feedback would be appreciated.

Lucky you weren't wearing waders on the way home from Limerick. Would have been a long smelly journey

Re: hard wearing chest waders
most neoprene and breathables will suffer in thistles and thorns. if hard wearing is your only concern then heavy duty vinyl / plastic rubber. Dennet do ones that are heavy, a mate of mine uses them to clean out his ditches which are 6-7ft deep.

Eric I suggest getting a belt or something. They are the biggest waders I have ever seen lol

Re: hard wearing chest waders
I've tried loads over the last few years. Neoprene are OK but far too hot to walk far in and they fit too tight making you feel like Michelin man . If they have seperate boots and you have any sort of beer gut they are pigs to put on. They may keep you warmer in winter but that is the only plus.
Breathables are a waste of time and money. A tackle dealer mate told me that after returning the second pair for leaking , same as first . He said they were developed for the American market where most only fish on vacation or several times a year so are not really given hard use. They drive to where they fish and on the whole are lazy anglers probably not doing too much walking.
Oceans are the best. They are up for anything and easy to repair ( aquaseal or solvite )
I treat them like shite and replace them every 18 months or so. The only negative is that they do smell after you've had them a while and it rubs off on your clothes. I have on occasion put them on in the car when returning home from somewhere I shouldn't have been only for my missus to say "you've been fishing late". Maybe not a bad negative !
They dont come with a wading belt but wearing one is advisable as they are loose fitting and you could get a right soaking in the surf.
