Re: Abu 6500 C3 CT MAG HIGH SPEED
ive got a pair can't fault either of them. use them with .35 line over clean to medium rough ground. not the fastest runners when compared with the early centrifugal (non-magged) rockets but ultimatley very dependable.

Re: Abu 6500 C3 CT MAG HIGH SPEED
Thanks for the replies im hoping to give them a test drive over the weekend I was talking to another angler about them and he was suggesting that to take it easy bringing in fish as the fast retrieve can be deceiving and it could go hard on the innards of the reel etc

ive used a 6500 mag for years not sure of model its gold if that means anything
never had a problem with it except when i forget to tighten everything after cleaning and send a lead 500 yards and have to untangle for 20 minutes

Re: Abu 6500 C3 CT MAG HIGH SPEED
Have one since last August. I heard about the gears stripping from this forum but mine are still ok. I use my 6500s on clean ground for distance so I'm currently using sakuma crystal brite 15lbs which is 0.33mm to get as far as possible just slightly underfil. Had ray to 12lbs on it and moved rays clung to banks with hard tide flows.

Re: Abu 6500 C3 CT MAG HIGH SPEED
if your looking for a hi-speed reel that will cast to the horizon get a 525 mag..thats what the abu hi-speed was designed to compete with but doesnt come close...if you want an abu get one of the green 6500's..this will cast even further but dont abuse it too much...as with a lot of things these days the older they are the better. . .dont spend cash on a reel that doesnt know what its supposed to be used for just for the sake of the bling factor. . .
Re: Abu 6500 C3 CT MAG HIGH SPEED
I have one there nothing special the first one i got the handel came loose and nearly fell off while i was retrieving my trace with no weed or fish on it. Apparently a number of these reels were sold with dodgy nuts holding on the handels. Penn 525 is a better reel but it is a bit high for those without large hands. having said that ive had no problems since getting the 6500 hi speed repaired nearly 9 months ago.

500 yards you wish!
Maybe not attached to the reel that you are untangling.

I had the same problem with the nut which secures the handle on my 6500 hi speed, I managed to shear it at some point and not too long after I got it either but I havent had any problems with it since I replaced that nut either.
