Silverstrand Galway 22.04.09

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: Bradan, Myself and 1 other (Neil)

Duration: 16:00ish - 21:00ish

Tide: HT @ 15:40

Weather: SSW Force 6-7 raining solid from 19:00 onward

Bait: Lug, Fresh Mackerel & Sandeel

Rigs: 3 Hook Flappers 2 Hook Clipped

Results: Flounder & Five Bearded Rockling

Report: With bait left over from the weekend arranged to meet Bradan and Neil for a wee after work session. I had just set up and cast out when Neil arrived, after chatting for a good while about different marks and where's fishing etc etc we both baited up and cast out. There was good surf running with no weed behind it and things looked promising. Neil reeled in his first cast to reveal a Five Bearded Rockling while i reeled in a nice Flounder best i've had in a while at 40cm. Bradan arrived and got set up the tide was just starting to ebb and we were able to move onto the beach. Silverstrand never fails to amuse and this time was no different with 3 anglers clearly visible in the middle of the beach a kite surfer proceeded to come along ask where we were fishing then completely ignored our request to stay out far when passing by us  thankfully he didn't get caught up in our lines which was just by sheer luck. Bradan in between the antics reeeled in nice Flounder of 32cm. Neil packed away shortly after 19:00 and realised when he went to put the his gear in the car that he locked his keys in the it  :( which was a bit of a diaster as he'd a meeting to attend. Bradan dropped him home to pick up the spare set and asked me to keep an eye on his gear. Just as he arrived back a dog decided to run up and down the beach barking at the kite surfer who was still crossing over our lines  I'd just taken in the slack on Bradan's gear and raised it up trying to avoid the dog when it ran into the line. Soon after Bradan managed to pull out another well conditioned Flounder this one at 33cm as the tide was nearing low. The funniest bit was 3 young lads who came down on to the beach with a kite beachboard / rollerboard and proceeded to get dragged on their backsides along a very wet beach it was like watching a cowboy with his foot stuck in the stirrups of a runaway horse priceless  i tried to get some video footage but it was getting too dark for it to come out clearly. So with a kite surfer in front of us and a kite rollerboarder being dragged around the beach everyway possible but the right way beside us we said we'd give it one last cast which failed to produce. Still nice to get out after work and wet a line and the Flounder were very well conditioned which was good to see ejoyable wee session despite the sideshows :)

Yeah good session, although the rain was nearly horizontal by the time we packed up. The kitesurfer was a pain in the ass, Conor was a bit (a lot) more polite to him than I would have been if he'd talked to me  . The 3 lads with the kite were hilarious, I thought one of them was going to get dragged over the car park and into Rusheen Bay!
There was a swimmer too, but he only went in as far as his knees and obviously decided it was too cold, haha
The flounder were all decent size, and great condition for this time of year. Could have done with a couple that size on Sunday!
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Hows it going Connor.
Nice to see you have had a few fish.
I went to that bass mark today, plenty of flounder, all small, but no bass, went on the Shannon Tuesday, only found dogs there but it was a small tide. South Clare rock mark Wednesday and had some good hits on big shore crab but never managed to hook any!!
Not sure where to go Sunday but I guess it will be down South.
