south coast stress busting session 20 april 09

#1 Post by beachbuddy »

People:myself and gunther

Duration:22.00 to 1.00

Tide:3ish

Weather:mild initially,no wind but surf running

Bait:lug razor

Rigs:2 hook paternosters 1/0s

Results:3 bass,5 doggies 2 flounder 2 3bearded rockling

Report:Had hoped to go west but due to a toothache gave it a skip. However once the painkillers kicked in[eventually],headed for the open coastline in search of a bass.Perfect conditions for the bass rod and 2oz plan leads.Things started well with a small bass first chuck,a very small lean fish of about 2lb.After that it was a bite a cast, more than likely small flats which stripped the lug very quickly.Changed to the scratching rig with no 4's and started to connect with the flats .Things were going well for me but gunther could'nt get a tap[not using plain leads maybe].However that all changed once he dropped short and picked up a lively bass of about 3lbs the biggest on the night, job done we had'nt blanked.
Once the tide slowed down the dogs came on the feed and freely accepted the lug 30yds from the shore. If there were anymore bass about they had'nt a chance as the dogs were everywhere long-short casting range.
Finished with a few small rockling before we decided to call it a night.Good to get a few fish again even if they were small in general and there was no need to worry about my hooks breaking as rockhunters bass was nowhere to be found despite a trojon effort by us.Who cares about pain when your catching happy days :D

good results there mike, pity ye couldnt find franks monster.
you should have tied a bit of mono around the tooth and got gunther to cast :D :D . much quicker than waiting for pain killers to kick in.

ive been told that a tooth ache is a similar kind of pain as a strain in the back as their both full of nerves BUT at least you can go fishing with a tooth ache :D . i wouldnt recommend it with a dodgy back.

Well done Mike, I hope the tooth ache is better.
Recently I have found that dogfish have been taking lug more readily than last year - I don't think I caught a single dogfish last year on lug alone but over the last month or so I have got quite a few on lug bait - they must be hungry.
