Fahan 18-4-09

#1 Post by round_ourway »

People: Just Myself

Duration: 6.30am - 12.00pm

Tide: lw @ 8.10am

Weather: Very Little wind, Sunny 7 - 14 degrees

Bait: Mackerel, Squid, Sandeel, Rag,

Rigs: Pennel Pulley, 3 hook Booms, 2 hook clip

Results: 3 Rays, 2 dogs

Report:

Hello all, first report in ages.

I actually fished this mark on Easter Tuesday (14-4-09) and didnt get a sausage. There were around 10 other anglers. I saw others catching rays but I ended up way on round at the corner and not being able to reach the channel because I can't cast that far hehe. It was a great day all the same and good to get back to Donegal

So checking the tide on friday for saturday with low tide 1.2m @ 8.10am and high tide 2.7m @ 2.00pm I knew where I was going on saturday. I left the house at 5am and got to the mark about 6.15am. There wasn't any other anglers at all on the beach.

I had a bag of rag to use up so I set up a rod to see if there where any flounder about and set up 2 rods for the rays. For the first two hours I didnt get a thing until just after low tide the rays and the dogs came on the feed. I think the best way to fish this place is to take a third rod with ya to keep you occupied from bringing the rods in to soon. I didn't get anything on the rod I was baiting with rag.

Got a couple of pictures.

when sorting out a rig, ray and a dogfish I turned to see this husky sitting looking at the ray. It didn't make a sound just sat looking at the ray then me, the ray .. . . . . so funny

Fair play on the ray, great result seeing as you havent got out much lately.

Wish we had a mark down here that could reliably produce during daylight like Fahan does.

Nice to see you getting some use out of the modded humpa 8)

Cheers mate. Its hard ole mark to fish sometimes and many of times I walked away with not a fish to my name.

I plan to take a wee trip down your direction when the water heats up a bit to try for some 'hopefully' spurs

I have made a few more mods to the humpa since then lol, still messing around trying to sort out a rod holder for it. it does make carrying that amount of gear easier. downside is . . . . . you seem to bring more with ya lol

Cheers mate. They took straight mackerel on a pennel pulley. cast as far as I could chuck it (I reckon about 90 - 110 yards)

I know mate. I love rays, they are awesome creatures to catch. They dont give much of a fight. They dont look like they are from this world and shouldn't be caught.

Not much of a fight?? Wow, I've never caught one, but it looks as though it would take on my seal! Good session fella.
