Cracked carcase on a 525 super mag.. HELP

Hi lads,

Stripped down the 525 super mag below this morning as it was sounding a little rough… done a complete over haul on it,

Cleaned and oiled every part that needed it then reassembled it with great care… that done I couldn’t wait to take it to the field to tune it in so of I went this afternoon and was well pleased to see it working like new again.. Until I got a bad asp birds nest,

It was while I undid the nest that I seen the carcase had cracked and I’m sure it wasn’t there before I left the house as I surely couldn’t have missed it while cleaning and reassembling and it didn’t get knocked about on the way to the field… it has me baffled,

Sorry about the quality of the picture… I put a blade of grass on the spool pointing to where the crack appeared you might just about see a faint line just above the spool almost smack on the center,

Can anyone tell me if I could repair this somehow or if it will affect the reels performance… should I or can I just buy the shell of the reel and use my parts to build a new reel,

If it has to be a new carcase can you please tell me where I might find a site that sells this part.. If indeed it can be had on its own.

whether or not this was done by human error it again re-enforces my notion that you just cant beat the original 525's. these super hyper extra mags just arent as good. you shouldnt have a prob getting the new part though from penn uk

by any chance did you forget to take out the tiny screw at the top of the left end plate under the brass ring? easy one to forget and could cause this to happen..

Hi Gearoid

Just checked the reel and the screw is missing so I think you hit the nail on the head…the crack has split the hole that the little screw goes into, so it was me that did the damage

Had a check on the other 525 and that screw is also on the missing list I either forgot to put it back or I forced it out when I pulled the plate off as I must have done with the first reel,

No damage to the second reel “thank god” so now I need a Frame and 2 small screws… man I knew I should have passed it on to you for the service,
