flood water in estuarys

#1 Post by red »

just a quick question lads.
i was hoping to fish an estuary tomorrow night but was told with all the heavy rain in cork that it might be a waste of time and bait as it might be more fresh water than salt   .
it hasn't rained yet today but heavy showers are forecast and tomorrow is meant to be ok bar a few light showers. how long roughly after the rain would it be worth trying again??
cheers,
red.

I was told that too (in cork harbour) but last summer after a bad spell (what a summer!!) i went out and had three bass on the lure... so you never know till you go!
It might suit some species??

Hi Red,

The bigger the estuary the more water it takes to put the fishing off. Some species react differently, but in general, the fresh water will put the fish off. Cork should be ok, so it's worth a try.

should be alright mate but as they say "you'll never know till ya have a go" might be worth trying earth worm's as there will have been a load washed down with the heavy rains.
some times catching crabs is a good thing.........or is it...........?

i was thinkin that about the earthworms. i got some a few weeks ago to try for a trout but never bothered. they might be worth a go.
im fairly hungover so will decide later on whether to go or not. i might just curl up and watch The Snapper for the 10th time  .
