Poor Cod or Pouting?

#1 Post by dfella25 »

Lads I caught a pouting a few weeks back and caught this fish last night but not sure if its the same because it looks different. The Pouting was more golden looking.

Anyway any help much appreciated.

look like pouting man. black dot at the base of the pectoral fin, the tails are square cut (not concave like the poor cod), faint black verticle bars on the 2nd and 3rd pics. also the poor cod's 1st anal fin is almost in line with it's second dorsal fin, where as the pouting's 1st anal fin starts mid way through it's first dorsal. poor cod also look more elongated where the pouting are generally a deeper bodied fish. hope this helps and by pure coincidence our last trip to bangor and donaghadee produced a strongly marked pouting you can look at in our shore report
