Peeler Crab V's Soft Crab??

#1 Post by tazdogue »

I was getting frozen squid the other day in a local Asian cash and carry and i spotted whole frozen soft crab. I was just wondering are these the same as peeler crabs? They were only 8euros for a box of 12 and they were more than double the size of the peeler crab i get in one of the local angling shop. They werent treated in anyway and the box just said "soft crab".I know that the peeling process in crabs make way for the soft shell but i was wondering if they would still be ok to use as bait as they are still soft? Has anyone ever used soft crab instead of peelers or am i just talking hydraulics and they are the same?

I've used them before with some results, but i've used em in cocktail with lug... That box is not 8 euro though, I thought the same yesterday, went to the till and found out that box is actually 24.99!! :o
The asian market in dublin does a 5 pack of the same crab for 5.50... no use to you in cork though...

but worth a shot I reckon...

ive seen them but wasnt sure if they were worth a go or not tho. the price on the freezer is definatly E7.99. might be per kg but doubt that the 12 crabs weigh 3 kgs. if you decide to try them and they try and charge the E25, argue that legally you only have to pay the E8 as thats the advertised price.
check out the fresh fish section there too for the razor, a little small but cheap as chips.
