Myself and my girlfriend are gona hit the road in may/june for a weekend of camping and shore fishing, nothing major bit of lure fishing for bass and pollock and beach fishing after dark. Just want to no is there any great spots around the country that you's would recomend that would be safe enough to leave the car and tent for the day? Or would we be better off in a caravan site and travel to the marks?
Cheers John.

Re: Camping/fishing
if it was me id rather pitch in a camp site. theres loads of them around, usually about 20-25euro a night for 2 people and you'd have good enough kitchens in most sites plus hot showers and the security of people around so the tent wouldnt go walkies. you could base yourself in west cork somewhere. most campsites are within 45 mins of at least 10 beaches.
there was one really good site in dingle called ballintaggart house. it had camping facilities and a hostel but i think it might be shut now but not sure. there was another one there but cant remember the name of it. you'd have the whole dingle peninsula on the doorstep and its meant to be as good as anywhere for Bass fishing. plus you'd do well to find a nicer spot to stay. just dont hook Fungie, the locals mightn't like it

I think red is talking about the oratory campsite as the other Dingle one? http://www.camping-ireland.ie/caravan-parks/camping.php?id=41. I stayed there a few years back and did a bit of fishing around the peninsula. Its a bit far for a walk to Dingle, but there was a pub/hotel place nearby. It was basic enough at the time, but not too far from a lot of fishing spots
I'd agree with him anyway, stay in a campsite and drive to wherever you are going to be fishing etc. Mind you the way hotel and B&B prices are going you'd almost be as cheap getting a room somewhere.
Stayed here as well (in Wexford, Fethard-on-sea) http://www.camping-ireland.ie/caravan-parks/camping.php?id=104 and was ok, walkable to the town and close enough to some fishing venues (not that we did much or had much luck when we did)

the one i was on about is this
http://www.rainbowhosteldingle.com/index.htm
id forgotten about the oratory one.
the one above says its a mile from dingle(which could be 2) but i remember seeing a rainbow shuttle bus around the town at night which could be handy.

Re: Camping/fishing
best thing about dingle is you dont need good weather to enjoy it
. it got more pubs than you can imagine and a pretty strange nightclub called the hillgrove
.
if the weather is good youll be spoilt for choice for fishing. i think theres charters from the pier too.
theres probably plenty of other place to go around cork and kerry but if it were me, id go to dingle.
enjoy.

Re: Camping/fishing
one other thing, dont forget the ban on Bass fishing from 15th May to June 15th if your planning it for around that time.
