new in Galway....and new in seafishing!

#1 Post by frenchvisitor »

hi guys!

Didn't find any presentation topic so i do it here!
first i wud like to apologize for my bad engish!
Im alex i live in GALWAY from last november and will stay probably till next july.
I am 26 an crazy about fishing as Im going nearly everyday!Im fishing at the moment for perch trout and pike on rivers and lough in galway co and north clare only on lures and on catch and release only.

I wil be very pleased to get some fish from the sea but it is really new to me as i come from the north east o france and sea is hours away!

I had a look at barna spiddal and salthill many times but I've never seen any angler!

I fish just for fun so I wud be more than please with any fish any size

so I wud like to get any advice on what's the best way and mark to get a fish??once again any size any specie just to give me bit of confidence!

I've read in this forum (when its not written irish :D )that spiddal barna and even the docks in the city are good marks and north of clare as well

I've also read that quite a few of you are from galway so if you're doing some fishing i wud more than appreciate that you let me know for me to come and see you in action it would be the easiest way for me to learn!

thanks in advance hope to post a pict of my fist seafish soon!

regards

alex

the marks near the city are all pretty good - but its just a bad time of year for them

right now night fishing is probably best - have you a headlight for this?

i will probably be out at the weekend for a few hours near the city

ill pm closer to the time

hi guys and thanks for your offers one again i really apreciate!

alex i did notice these grey fish in barna in very shallow water.....run to my car to get a spinning rod and tried them with a small rubber grub....but they weren't interested at all and went away!

please send me a PM next time you have a go I heard these fish are really hardfighter!

gfkelly1969 thank you for your offer!Im not sure I've got the right tackle to fish for ray but I wud love to see ya in action!the best is probably to wait a bit for the water to be a bit warmer?but if you think that's a good time now just send me a PM!

Im working but I got usually 3days off a week and I do night shift sometimes so I've got a lot of days free!

once again THANKS guys!!!

hi alex
you don't need anything special to fish for ray, just a beach caster and 3 hook mackerel feather rig and some mackerel as bait
if you have not got a beach caster don`t worry i have a few spares,i have all the gear for the ray and bait
any rod would do because you don't have to cast far and it is nice clean ground,i have never lost a rig here
and most of the ray are about 3 to 5lbs weight the biggest was 8lbs

i will try to fish the spot over the next few weeks and let you know if i get any ray
you are right its better to wait a few weeks until the water is a bit warmer
