Crosshven and Camden

#1 Post by AnglingDan »

Hey Guys,

It certainly has been a while since I've posted anything on the site. I'll just be getting warmed up with a simple request. I've finally gotten wise and moved out near the sea here in Crosshaven. I'm looking for some advice for Fort Camden and more importantly the beach around the corner from the pier.

Its quite rocky so I imagine there is a bit of Wrasse to be had in amongst the rocks along with bass(advice specifically requested) with ray and such at distance over the sand.

Its been a long time since I've been out so my main interest is which species are around at this time of year, around this area, and which techniques I should try at what range.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks Lads
Dan

ps. I feel like a rookie for even having to ask!!! :)

Hi Dan long time, no hear.
Which beach? The one out by the Point or the one on the far side of Camden with the pipe?

hey sean,

im living up on weavers point. above where the old stone building is right at the end of that beach. its called weavers point. so im looking to find out about that stretch from that building all the way across and around to camden pier. you know that beach like where you skirt the rocks and wall to get to the pier at camden. i have that whole beach as my playground/ garden so to speak.

im guessing that at the moment its just bait fishing until round may or so. when does the mackeral start running out that way.

cheers,

dan

I used to get plenty of bass around there every September...no need to cast far...lug or crab close in. I haven't fished there in 7 or 8 years. Great sport for the mackeral when they're in on floatfished sprat on light gear. Myrtleville and Fountainstown beaches close by used to throw up plenty of dogs, flounder and the odd thornback and conger. Nice part of the world.

Ivan.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the advice! Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear. Was down on the beach last week flipping over rocks and found crab and white rag. Did a bit of floating, but I think its still to early for that.

Thanks again lads and I'd welcome the company Seancelt!

I'll post on any reports as soon as I really start exploring!

Well I went down today for about 2 hours while my gf was at work. Had no luck until I was just about to leave. As I was sitting on the rocks I saw a fish swimming very close about ten feet out in front of me. So I did what any angler would do. Since I only took one rod down I immediatly reeled in and changed to a float hoping to get a bass, but to no joy. I think it was probably a couple mullet doing the rounds.

Just before heading home I landed a average dog. What can I say, just glad I didn't get skunked again :)

Lets keep it going lads, anyone heads down this way post it here 8)
