fishing sign at port oriel clogherhead

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

does anyone know what this is about??? i fished there with lug on 3 hook flappers as i was after flatties, rockling and well to be honest,,,,,,,,,...... anything with gills    but does this only apply to targeting salmon, or whats the craic? i espically like the rule about not removing the salmon from the water while unhooking. that would be a great trick i'd like to see performed as at low tide you're 25 foot above the water    . any info would be appreciated as i don't want to fall foul of the rules on my next trip

no worm fishing
do they mean lug and rag

to me it looks like some one in the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board should learn the difference between fresh water and salt water, looks like the sign should be on a river

noting on their web site about salmon caught in the sea
lifetime species fishing and rock pool

cheers lads, i thought it was a bit off :| :| :| :| i got talking to one of the guys on a big trawler moored up there that morning. he reckoned that you would have more chance of finding a hen with a full set of teeth before you stood a chance of catching a salmon there      he seemed a bit bemused by it too :? :? not quite sure what the fisheries guy was smoking before he decided to put the sign up there

I live in clogherhead myself and had to laugh at the sign, but saying this iv have seen a salmon jump from the water at a mark at the back of the head about 3/4years ago and family of mine have netted the odd one or two years ago between the harbour and the bigstrand.
