How's Clare Fishing?

#1 Post by spindlefist »

So I've decided to base myself in Lahinch this coming weekend, but am looking to fish Carrigaholt, pier and beach, Liscannor and possibly Cregg.. Reckon over the weekend, at varyint times, ie , day sess and night sess, I'll be chasing Conger, doggies, bass and Ray...of course, shall not turn down any other species that come my way or that are about at the moment, I've had good sessions of wrasse , albeit smallish fish, off Liscannor pier..

Can anyone recommend any spots fishing well at the mo?

regards
Dáire

There are loads of good marks in Clare some are not even mentioned on the fishing maps or this site but Carrigaholt beach is good on an incoming tide into darkness with big fishbaits the pier is also good and there is another beach opposite Carrigaholt called Haughs beach try using peeler there at distance you would be quite suprised what you will land this time of year the spring run will be well on now....

If you want any more details just pm me your no and ill give you direction....

I fished the beach at doonbeg this time last year and had a couple of 6lb bass. You have to wait till the surfers come of the beach when it gets dark. Lug was the best bait. The locals reckon the beach holds the record bass .

Excellent, Appears I am going to be spoilt for choice, hopefully will get 4 sessions in over the 3 days, so will try different marks, am bringing a plethora of baits, rag, lug, mack, squid, sandeel, and am going to try the ''soft shell crab '' and some other fish oddities from the asia market, will let you know if they get results.

i've spent a lot of time between liscannor and cregg and have never caught anything but a few very small wrasse off liscannor ( north of the pier) , the beach between liscannor and the river (back of the pitch and putt ) has thrown up a good few bass over the years but can get so full of weed as to be unfishable, there's a lad who wades out from there at low water and fished the mouth of the estuary religiously and has had some great fish on crab baits.

Cregg used to be a great spot years back but I've only had dogs (lots) and flounders there in recent times.
