lure fishing today sat 14th

#1 Post by dunner »

Went out east today with shallow diving plugs and some top water poppers.
After the last few days weather the sea was pretty coloured and weedy in places.
No fish caught or seen.
Tried an orange/gold bass buster (popper) for the first time today, i thought it would not catch and its been in my lure box for two years! (bit unsure about using it in public! )
After i saw the carrot popper post i think i will give it a go during the year...will report on it too.............
Anyone catch a bass on an orange coloured lure?

I've caught on an orange J13 before. Can be quite effective at times, especially during the summer when they are not going for the lures they usually do. Sometimes bass can get used to a lure at a venue and a change can suddenly yield spectacular results  .

i usually go for a lure with movement (wiggle action) before colour...i wonder does it matter... could you fish any colour?
I hooked a bass but lost it on a bizare coloured lure last year ... but the action of the lure was great.......i was thinking at the time it could represent a cuckoo wrasse????
Em.... strike minnow ..i think it was called a cheapy from ebay asia.. i got two other colours green/blue mack style and they were great ....hooks not good though.....

Would second what pat has said,my fav deep water lure has been a bright yellow belly orange back rapala j13,deadly in rougher conditions, and if i had to choose only one lure in my box it would be the shallow diving firetiger coloured [bright green and fluoro orange belly]storm jointed thunderstick absolutely deadly everytime,i love it.
That lure you have dunner will def work, bling is in

Marlinman is onto something there. The jointed J13 in Perch or firetiger can be very very good. I find it works well around kelp where you expect fish to be feeding on crabs and wrasse etc. Think about it - dark green back, yellow orange belly - remind you of any food bass like!!! One of my favourite plugs - so dats enuf said
