GREYSTONES 28-02-09 (visit by Al and Jordan)

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, Al, Jordan and Neil,,Bigsod dropped by to say hello

Duration:4pm-10pm

Tide:low at 7-08pm

Weather:southwest breeze, mild, dry

Bait:rag,lug,mack,squid

Rigs:flappers and mini rig

Results:whiting, shanny, dabs, codling, 5 bearded rockling, coalie

Report:Was set up and all by 4pm awaiting the arrival of Al and Jordan from Belfast. Was a bit breezy out but as heavy rain had been forecast for the evening i was happy enough that at least it was dry. When they arrived I recognised them straight away from their reports and once greetings were exchanged we settled down for some fishing. Bigsod from the site dropped by just to say hello , a nice gesture i have to say. We all had 2 rods out each and i was just hoping that the little lad would catch his first dab, after travelling down so far. Al told me that Jordan had been under the weather that morning and the fishing trip had been touch and go so he really deserved to get that dab. I had fished here the night before and had caught two,, so i thought we had a good chance but as you all know,,,,,,you just never know what might turn up,,,or not   I was first to catch a fish,,a blenny or as Jordan calls them,,,a shanny,,,,so shanny it was. I felt the pressure lift a bit as i landed him ,,at least the fish were starting to bite,,, and sure enough as dusk fell we all started to get bites. Jordan then got a bite on one of his rods and as he reeled it in he realised it was a flattie. After a tricky landing,(after all it was low water and he was landing it through the exposed rocks,) we were all delighted to see it was indeed a Dab, his first ever, and a new species for the year to boot    . Photos ensued, and the dab was released . Neil arrived then and met the guys, and gave them some local knowledge as he's a Greystones native, before setting up himself to target doggies. Jordan was in again a while later and had the cheek to land a codling before me     . I thought i had explained the rules to him    Another new species for him this year  . He also caught some whiting but as he still wasnt 100% recovered from his cold, Al decided that they would pack up and head back for some r+r in Bettystown. All in all i'm sure the trip was a success for them, he had achieved his aim to catch a Dab, and the codling was a bonus  . Great to meet you lads and i hope you enjoyed the trip.Myself and Neil stayed on another hour and a half with Neil not getting a single bite. I was getting a few fish, with 2 x Dabs,a shanny, a five bearded rockling, a coalie, and around ten whiting altogether for the night. I told Neil it would be great for the report if he had a blank and that it would cheer John Bunn up immensely (John blanked at Ennereilly again the other night  ),, but he wouldnt oblige and caught a mini whiting at the end, bringing his total up to ,,,what was it again,,,oh yeah,,,1.
ps Al will post his photos of Jordans fish when he gets home.

just getting sorted now after the weekend. firstly i would like to thank eyesreilly. you were spot on, putting us onto the fish :D :D :D :D you would'nt believe how long jordans been after a dab. then getting the codling was the icing on the cake. and it was really good to get to meet yourself and fishface. even big sod was decent enough to come down and introduce himself      i'm just gutted jordan was loaded with the flu   . i honestly thought when we got up on saturday morning the session was going to have to be cancelled. his wee eyes were bloodshot and glazed over and he had a cough of an eighty year old smoker. but he was adament that nothing short of death it's self was gonna keep him from greystones that day      i'm gonna see what i can get sorted for next weekend and try to get a run down again. saturday was one of the shortest sessions we've had in a while, but it was a dab hunt. and he got it. again, many thanks dave and you are all more than welcome to come up and fish with us any time you like and we can return the favour and hospitality :D :D :D :D :D :D :D i'll drop you a p.m. on wednesday when i get the rota sorted out for the weekend to let you know if we'll be down again. many thanks, Al.

cheers lads, jordan is made up that he finally got his dab :P :P :P . it was just a pity that he was loaded with the flu  (and has passed it on to me  )

we had a serious scare last year when rock fishing and a massive swell came from nowhere and a big wave swept over us     . it seems mad that as anglers we are prepared to spend hundreds on rods and reels but seem reluctant to spend £30 or £40 quid on safety gear :|
