People:Me and Mick
Duration:6.00-10.00pm
Tide: high at 8.40
Weather: mild and calm sea
Bait:Ragworm, Lugworm both tipped with squid
Rigs:3 hook flapper at close range, 2 hook clipped down further out
Results:Mick 19 coalfish 1 Flounder. Me 17 coalfish 2 flounder
Report:Arrived at the car park with a chilly off shore breeze but thankfully the sanddunnes sheltered the narrow beach so we could fish in fairly mild conditions. Immediately we started catching coalfish, nothing bigger than 24cm, and they were taking both rag and lug, to be honest it literally was a fish every cast with a number of doubles. I reckon if we had run out of bait they could probably have been caught on a bare hook! It wasn't until after the tide had turned and begun to drop that the flounders showed up, just as we were thinking of calling it a night.

nothing bigger than 24cm, they became a nuisance more than anything, however I have only caught one whiting this year so far!

I have fished Culdaff beach a few times
and i have noticed that if you fish straight down from the car park then you will catch loads and loads of small fish but if you fish of to the left or right then you will get fewer fish but the ones you get will be a lot bigger
I heard that there was some "bars of silver" caught there recently
but not where you were fishing
The best advice i can give you is use fresh lug and go for a walk

That sounds like fishing as it should be. The light was falling as we arrived and since I couldn't decide if the rocks or the river would be the best feature to fish we just set up where we stood in the daylight. I will definately do a bit more exploring next time, at least this session gives me something to compare against.
