Portnablagh. Co. Donegal 23.02.09

#1 Post by last cast lad »

People: Just me

Duration: 3.5 hrs

Tide: falling from high

Weather: very mild , swell out to sea but calm in bay

Bait: Ragworm

Rigs: 3 hook flapper

Results: 8 three bearded rockling 21-33cm :D
1 coalfish

Report: Well the advantage of having too much bait and enough left over for another session when fishing at the weekends is that my wife understands (allows) me to go fishing again at the start of the week. Headed down to a local rock mark after work to fish it but big swels meant I couldn't get down to the ledge I wanted. So I headed around the cobh to the pier. Most fish caugt in the first 2 hours and curiously all (apart from a double shot) the 3 bearded rocklings were caught on the middle snood, which was about four feet from the lead, not sure if this is significant. I was fishing over sand but casting up along the rocky reef (not easy in the dark with only the sound of the waves softly breaking over the reef). Delighted with my session, some well coloured 3 bearded rocklings.
It's all about the fishing

Well done Allister, One more new venue tried and fish caught as well. Not surprised to find the rocks to dangerous to fish after seeing the sea conditions last sunday.

Nice one. I have been told that rockling feed close to the bottom and the ones I have caught were on the bottom hook. Maybe the bottom was being stirred up a bit :?
