Bray Harbour 22-02-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:6pm-10pm

Tide:rising,,high at 22-41

Weather:windy and cool at first, wind dying away and mild later

Bait:lug, frozen mack

Rigs:3 hook flappers, pulley pennell

Results: whiting and rockling

Report:Had some lug left over from Arklow on Saturday so headed to Bray Harbour for a handy session. No other anglers till later on so i had the pier to myself for a few hours. Plenty of whiting and rockling with the odd crab or twelve making an appearance also. Had a great bite and take which got snagged and i let my imagination run riot, what was it???,,,nice coalie or a codling maybe??. I decided to pull for a break and was delighted when it pulled free and i could feel the fish still on. As i landed the fish it turned out to be a 5 bearded rockling  , which wasnt even hooked . He had taken the hook upside down with the barb sticking out of his mouth,,,he just wouldnt let go   Plenty of doubles of whiting with the best 28cms (where was he on Sat in Arklow??). I left when the clock struck 10 and i realized i was to be home for 9pm   ,,,just as the fishing was at its best

The exact thing happened to me on Saturday while I was fishing in the Arklow harbor, I was quite surprised about that.
Nice session Dave.

Rocklings are greedy little feckers alright - I have had a few that managed to cram large baits on 3/0 or 4/0 hooks into their mouths - sometimes the bait would have been nearly larger than the fish
