nth Wexford 1th feb

#1 Post by ronanohal »

Fished 5:30pm - 11pm
Low tide 5:30pm
Weather - very calm, mild, no breeze
Results
me: 21 whiting, 1 rockling
Dave: 18 whiting ah ha!
fished with mack, mussel and sandeel. mackerel was by far the best. caught out past the sand bar and right inside within 20 yds of shore almost every cast. we both had big baits out for a possible bass but had to switch over to scratching for the whiting when dave was leading by 9 fish to my 3. desperate times call for desperate measures. caught a couple of almost decent whiting out a decent enough distance but 25cms was probably the max. mostly tiny

We were plagued by whiting alright and had a good few double shots. I was kinda hoping to get a few more species to tick off the list for the year but I just couldn't get through the whiting and was even catching them on the pulley rig with big baits. To make things worse I didn't notice Ronan's devious rig changing and next thing I knew he had not only caught up but taken the lead. :( I was good to get out fishing again after all the snow and frost of the last couple of weeks but the drive back up to Dublin afterwards wasn't fun. I think I might have a few photos on the camera, I'll have a look and stick them up later.
