Dalkey 14/2

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

4-7.30

Rigs - 2 hook flappers, 2 hook clip ups, pulleys

Bait - Lug, Mack, sand eel

Thought I'd get a few hours in before joining the shoals hunting for the other most elusive creature on the planet.

Lovely weather, Calm

Bought myself a nice new double rod stand in Dun Laoighre, tried to see if he'd throw in the bait with it but no joy! Sure what can you do.
Had planned to go to Greystones but time was against me so flew up to Nolan park. Pots were out again so had to fish in close.

Had two rods out but nothing really going on. A couple of nibbles but the bait wasn't even off the hooks when reeled in every 20 min or so.
Had a bend in the rod and thought I had a doggie on, would've been happy enough to save a blank. But happy days for the second time in that spot I got myself a fair sized lobster. Last time It was a female so back it went but not this time, no chance!

I had been losing gear and weights repeatedly and a pulley rig only works when you've a fish on!

To make do with what I left I put one rod out with a float but Id nothing to use as a weight. I had bunch of keys in my jacket and a bottle opener. So the house and car keys came off and in it went. Just when I thought whiting couldnt get anymore suicidal, ie swimming backwards onto hooks I reeled in to find a whiiting about 17 cm had lodged itself into one of those rings you put keys on! Could be the new alternative to hooks!

The whiting went back in the water but straight into the mouth of a waiting seal, After a brief staring match with the seal I decided to call it a day

Id had a big juicy cocktail of lug, sandeel and mack out far on a two hook pulley. No joy and I lost that to the pots.

Rang my granny and told her to put a big pot of water on. Boiled the lobster for 7 minutes, Ripped off the tail and cracked the claws with a hammer. My first time ever having fresh lobster. Absolutely dee-licious!

No Diego, it's a female lobster when you see their eggs underneath the tail  :D

I could be wrong but the females have an inverted "v" in the end of their tales. They give it loadsa verbals too ;)

Next time out there I might throw out a handline with maybe a cluster of 3 hooks with a load of mack. Ive seen a guy reel in two in the same spot before and another time I just got a lobster leg. Im sure once I try to get them I wont!
