Wicklow Harbour 14-02-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me ,6pm-12pm,,,fishface, 7pm-9pm

Duration:as above

Tide:rising,,high at 2am approx

Weather:fine ,mild, slight shower

Bait:lug,mack,sandeel and squid

Rigs:flappers and pennell rig

Results:whiting,,,lots of them

Report:Beautiful mild evening out,,,i was surprised there was nobody else around. Neil joined me for a couple of hours but nobody else was fishing. He had my new Imax floatation suit with him for me, a big thanks Neil, its the business, now all i want is some more sub zero weather   . I fished for over 6 hours (warm as toast) in the hope of catching something other than whiting but i wasnt too disappointed,,,there were plenty around with a few big ones in among the pins. Bites were coming thick and fast most of the night ,, with the bigger ones about as it got closer to high tide. All baits worked ,but the bigger whiting were caught on the pennell rigs, size 2/0 hooks with a big chunk of mack. I tried sandeel in the hope of a doggie or 3 but to no avail. A ship,i presume a naval vessel,, anchored about a half mile outside the harbour and the guys were speeding in and out of the harbour in an inflatable boat,,,in and out,,in and out,,in and out. Didnt really bother me as they have their job to do ,,,i presume they were training for something or other,,,, but i was a bit disappointed when a few pebbles were tossed over the wall in my direction. Expecting the local "tinnies " brigade i was surprised to see nobody else but our navy seals    . I was going to pull rank on them as i was a patrol leader in the scouts years ago but decided against it. I settled on giving them the "eyes" stare and this had the desired effect and the pebbles stopped falling from the sky. I left well after midnight when the fuel in my lamp ran out,,,good job i didnt fill it up completely or i'd have stayed all night  .

excellent sesh dave, only spotted your post  . nice to see you got your 30cm milestone   makes a change from the masses of pins. but it does give a bit of hope thow. so long as the 30cm guys avoid nets for 12 months they might grace your hooks again with a bigger belly next time     just a pity about the shower of scum who gave you a shower of pebbles

Nice session there eyesreilly.
The navy obviously saw the years of scout combat experience in your eyes!!!
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.
