Arklow harbour - 04/02/09

#1 Post by diego »

People: Me

Duration: 20.15 to 22.00

Tide: High Tide @ around 17.00

Weather: Strong freezing wind

Bait: Lug

Rigs: 2 hook flapper

Results: 1 whiting

Report:

I wanted to go fishing but due to the weather forecast I didn't want to go too far from home.
I couldn't bare Ennereilly again and therefore I decided to try a new spot and I went to Arklow harbour.

I arrived at the harbor at around 20.00, I stepped out the car and I realized that there was a strong freezing wind.
It took me 10 min to decide if I was going to fish or not, it was too cold and windy!

Decision made, just stay for 1 hr and reassess the situation @ around 21.30.

While I was fishing I saw a couple of cars passing by, they just turned back at the end of the pier.
Maybe some youngsters that they wanted to have some fun. I probably spoiled their night

After 20 min or so the Garda arrived, I presume that they were just doing a routine check.
I had a chat with them, they asked me what I was hoping to catch a part from the cold

I can't believe the amount of cars that passed by in the following hour.

At around 21.15 I saw a bite (the first and only one of the night). It was "John" - The lonely whiting.
I casted another couple of times but no more bites.
After 30 min it started raining and I decided to pack my stuff and go home.

fair play to you for getting out of the car. i went tuesday night to a beach not too far from me and struggled to leave the car. eventually i did so wrapped up well and decided to give it a go. after an hour of no bites and some very light snow i left as i forgot my thermal socks and my toes were starting to hurt. i wont be making that mistake again.

Bad luck diego, though you would have got a bit more there for your trouble.

I have fished there twice before and always lots of cars coming and going, and funnily enough, both time saw the garda checking the area aswell. Nice to know they regularly patrol the area from a safety point of view.

Good man for getting out in this weather. You must be nearly snowed in down there!

I hope I'll be able to get down the N11 tomorrow night.
