Sand banks

I plan to fish a beach during the summer months that has a sand bank about 30 feet out. Would you know what would be the best way to fish it. I mean into the gully, on the bank or aim for behind it? Needless to say I will try it all but I was just looking for some info on it.

I know Dog fish can be caught behind the bank after dark just not sure if fish would feed on the bank or come into the gully between it and the beach.

stay away from them banks, full of sharks.

not a dumb question at all - if you know of banks then your onto a winner - features hold food and therefore attracts the fish

your approach is correct in casting about the bank and to figure out what species are held where

gullies are great spots to bring in flatfish and in the right places bass and seatrout

if you haven't considered this (you prob hav) try different leads too, grippers and bombs to see wot diff it makes.

depends on the tide conditions. if it's flowing, try the near side of the bank, if it's ebbing the far side.

SK There is a very strong current running here and I will probably have to use an anchor!!

The reason I was asking was I know this beach very well and used to fish it as a lad for dogfish. Now that I'm more grown up (not mature mind you) I wanted to spend some time on it during th summer.

I'd try both a gripper and a bomb in the channel/s around the banks. If theres that much flow - heavy ones. You could try uptiding with them to see if the grip will hold or at least how much time you get with the bomb (or watch lead if theres mud) before you have to take it in again. I used to fish a deep estuary channel one time with a strong current casting uptide and bouncing the lead along by releasing line a little at a time. There was a fair bit of castin involved compared to normal - but it worked!

Cheers Sk I picked up a couple of 3oz (or there abouts) bomb leads. Looking forward to spending a few weekends there in the summer. I might also try a feeder rig
