SAI Blue Shark Meet, Carrigaholt, 29th August/09

This thread is to collect the names of Club Members for a blue shark
boat trip. The boat booked is the Clare Dragoon. Detailed reports of
the fishing on this boat are here

http://www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/gui ... n_2008.htm

I'm starting the thread early so I can book a second boat if needed.

Report from last year is at

jw, jd, tommy are definates for this, the austrian is a maybe so room for one
or maybe two more, weather looks good to me at the minute, light westerly
winds and a two meter sea, starting to worry now it might get too calm :-)

The forecast seems to change every time I look at it. At the minute it looks like a 3 meter
sea, but on the other hand light westerly breeze and the trip has been booked for a light
neap tide so I'd say we have a good chance of getting out. I will talk to the skipper this evening
and get his opinion.

At the minute we have 3 definates jd, jw and Tommy and the austrian is a probable and will confirm
tomorrow, so there's one more seat if anyone is interested?

The other possibility is the weather is too lumpy to let us get out beyond loop head but could
still fish at anchor around kilbaha for huss and conger and on the drift for reef species. I would
be on for this what do the rest of yous think?

Where we stand at the minute on this is that its not obviously too rough to go, nor is it definately
settled enough to guarantee getting out, its a maybe and depends how the breeze and swell works
out on the day.

There's no obvious settled spell coming up so I would go anyway to get some boat fishing in,
where do you stand on this martin?

karl who fished with us earlier on the tope is on for a shark trip as well

I spoke to a friend this morning, he is a meteorologist at Shannon Airport, according to his predictions we can expect a fresh to moderate breeze - wind moving 13-19 knots, which is force 4-5 on the Beaufort scale, wind directions from WNW changing to WSW during the afternoon, a morning swell of 4.1m decreasing to 2.9m later in the day, so it looks like a rough morning and becoming more settled during mid afternoon. Not really ideal, but what the heck, if Luke believes it's safe to head out please count me in John, I have fished worse conditions and it's always better than work, I only have one life to live.

Here is the forecast for Carrigaholt.
Yes it looks OK. Today anyway.
So it looks like we got a chance to go out boat-fishing after all.
Hope forecast wouldn't change much for the next 36 hours.
