painted ray advise needed

I was just wondering do painted ray go out to sea in the winter and if so around what time of year do they return and can anybody recommend a mark that produces alot of painted ray.I only ever caught two when bass fishing in west waterford during the summer and both were well over spieceman size and i didnt know what i was at and I fished that mark for the next two weeks with out a site of a any ray pms would be great
