People: Me and Tom
Duration: 19.30 to 00.30
Tide: High Tide @ 21.30
Weather: Dark and rainy at the beginning, warm and bright at the end
Bait: Old mushy Lug (and some fresh)
Rigs: 3 hook rig
Results: whiting, dab, flounder, rockling and mini-codling
Report:
I had two packs of lug leftover from the week-end and Tom’s had one bag too so we decided to use them. On the way home Tom bought two packs of fresh lug just to make sure that we had some proper lug.
Tom arrived at the mark way before me but found a horse in the path. He called to let me know if I couldn’t find him, he’d probably been trampled down. When I arrived there myself I discovered that I had left my rain trouser at home. Not a good start.
Tom had a spare pair but they were way too small for me, he’s a wee boy or I’m a fat arse as he told me last night.
You could hear the sound of the waves crashing on the beach from the distance, scary waves I have to say.
The first couple of casts didn’t produce any fish and it started raining; I expected at least to catch a couple of whiting but nothing. I started thinking that we were going to blank due to the big waves but I was wrong.
After a few minutes the fish started biting; I caught a flounder (27 cm) and a mini codling (21 cm) at the same time.
I was thrilled as it was my first codling.
The old lug were quite stinky, Tom started to gag so we broke out the fresh ones.
Tom managed to get a flounder too and then we had some whiting, to my surprise some of them were not so small (between 24 and 26 cm). I then caught another mini codling (29 cm). Happy days!
We had some more whiting, a double dab for me and a rockling for Tom.
I thought it was an enjoyable session even if we didn’t catch any whopper fish.

nice session at least you got a codling and didnt blank, sometimes the gank lug is deadly for dabs they seem to like it well fermented
you cant go too far wrong with a bit of fresh and it is a bit easier to get on the hook

Good man! I got the same codling there before Xmas I think! Glad to see the whiting are getting a bit bigger too.
Btw, stinky lug IS a very good dab bait.... http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/flat ... %20dab.htm. Just don't leave it in your car too long.
