west waterford 5jan09

#1 Post by beachbuddy »

People:me

Duration:8 till 11

Tide:very small full around 12ish,i think

Weather:FREEZING

Bait:LUG,RAZOR

Rigs:various

Results:1 bass,10 or 11 whitting,don't care

Report:Decided to head out for a quick session,so headed to the scene of my friends big bass catch before xmas. Why on earth i decided to fish on one of the coldest nights i can remember i'll never know, maybe cabin fever had something to do with it.
Anyway not much to report had a bass of around 3lb early in the session,he looked in a pityful state very poor conditioning,so much so i felt sorry for him maybe he was lonely as the rest of his friends are gone away for hols. :( :( After that the whitting came on the feed and that was that.I even got so annoyed with the little f....rs i put one on a live bait rig but no joy.Did learn something tonight and that is no way will i ever fish an open beach with winds from siberia blowing across me,it was mental.Im actually suprised to have caught anything but i'll take any result at the moment and i did get out and blow the cobwebs off the gear.
Happy Days

i fished a rock mark near kinsale yesterday and only lasted just over an hour. the winds were like cheap beer, very strong and very bitter. i could barely cast 30yards as they were right in my face. i decided i liked my ears too much to see them fall off with frostbite so packed up again without even a pin whiting to show for it.

Yip,
sure was cold, and i for one will never venture out in such conditions again I PROMISE :!: .Seanie must have just missed you so sorry .By the way i have what i think is your lost trace in my box,one of the hooks was bare and the other had the crab on it untouched and no weight on the trace it was wrapped around my line when retrieving after my first cast. The swivels and hooks will come in handy though

fished cobh Monday night cause taught with all the radioactivity and ceasium and stuff across the way it'd be the warmest place out. didn't notice the cold at all. slaughtered whiting. full houses every cast. flood tide. like some of em were dacent enough round the 20inch's mark. no other species to report. my car had frosted over and the engine wouldn't start which did put a dampner on things. needed at least 10 pints to warm myself up after though.

a few whiting over 20inchs would be welcome up on the east coast breaking 30cms is a good one - any whiting out west in the bay would be good    !!!

hope you got the car going again

lads there's some serious whiting knockin around the harbour and yaughal all winter. my previous pb was 36cm and I've been breaking it all winter long. I'v had em up to 49cm so far-roughly the 20inch's mark. but like I'd sooner few cod were showing like. had all the decent sized fella's on sandeel the other night.

How ya Corby boy, happy new year lad. Any crack? Any fishin by ya lately? (Edit) Oh ya and speakin of the avatar Brian, you still have that green jacket? must pick it up off ya some time if ya do-it really match's my waders like!

Well done on the bass marlinman.

Hugh if I thought there was whiting over 20 inches think I'd need a wire trace and a 4/0 hook over here  My personal best stands at a very respectable east coast 28cm
