cork harbour 1 jan 09

People:me

Duration:7 til 9

Tide:8ish

Weather:bitter easterly wind,but dry

Bait:razor,crab and squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers 1/0s

Results:3 codling,11 whitting,1 dab

Report:Decided at the last min to get out for a while and wet the lines.Tried a mark that always produces lots of fish abit small though, but is sheltered from east winds   .Not much to report plenty of whitting about as usual,no coalies for the first time ever that i've fished this mark.I could'nt cast any distance due to a string of shrimp pots[i think] 30yds max away from me
As the tide ebbed a few codling started to show. They were no more than 1lb,but at least it was nice to see them.If the pots were'nt about i think i could have had a few bigger fish from a sandbank 100yds out,but alas i did'nt get that chance.
All in all an easy relaxing session,i did get a massive fright just before going home,a bloody big seal broke the surface just 6ft from me,i don't know who was more shocked me or the seal,i hate it when they do that, but at least i saw something big in the sea,now hopefully the next time i'm out it will be a big fish :) :)
Tight lines and best of luck to all for 09

Sk,
somehow i think the 15lb f1 would'nt have been a match for the seal but if it had been hooked it would have been a good test   .Just glad to get out again, but i would love a good southerly to kick off the bass fishing again
No doubt you'll have a few more specimum fish in the next few months,so don't feel too bad

Looks like the wind direction is changing Saturday evening and Sunday you should have your wind from the south I’m happy to say, :)

Not a bad start to the New Year.

That's what we need alright - these easterly/southeasterlies have lasted long enough - I had hoped to get in a fair bit of fishing this week but the winds knocked that idea on the head. Although I did head out to a beach on Wednesday evening - fished for 5 hours and not a single bite - not even a whiting    Three other anglers there also blanked.

There is a change to southwesterlies forecast for Saturday night/Sunday so hopeful that might improved the beach fishing.
Happy New Year
