Dungarvan Swimming Pool area (anyone heard of it?)

#1 Post by Tipp Angler »

Hi,

Having recently been doing some exploring in the Dungarvan area I have seen some places to fish that look great for the spring/summer months but was wondering if anyone has heard of the above?

As I normally fish the other side of the bay Helvick or further
round like ardmore I am still unfamiliar with this very attractive
other side. On the CFB website it states a place for bait collection and flatfish etc but from the maps its unclear as to where the place is can anyone point me in the right direction?

PMs welcome

cheers

Send a pm to davewalt. He is very knowledgeable on marks in the Dungarvan area. I think its near the sports center - behind the church in the town. Davewalt told me in front of the sports center can be good in the summer.

This spot is where i caught my one and only specimen fish :D as a member of the former Abbeyside S.A.C. as a juvenile member many years ago. The easiest way to this spot is from St. Mary's Parish Church at the top of Mary Street. If you go up Mary street to the top and turn left on the roundabout stay going until you meet the seafront, take a right and over 20 yards or so on the left hand side you'll see that the sea wall steps out a bit. This is the swimming pool area. Over further to the right is also quite a good spot during the summer months.

Best of luck.

A Lesser Spotted Dog Fish, 3lb 4oz if i remember rightly. The night i caught it was one of the worst nights i have ever fished weather wise but on the plus side i won the comp and won a voucher for the local tackle shop which at the time was like winning the lotto. Ah happy days :) Just trying to remember how long Abbeyside sac is gone with, anyone shed any light on it for me?

Davewalt was in that club at one stage i think. He says a good few of the top competition anglers in other clubs now were once members of the abbeyside club. There was a guy Walsh who had a charter boat who had a shop down there one time I remember and davewalt told me before that there was a shop even before those ones where the flower shop is now. I think he said the guy was called Casey but might be wrong there. Meant to have been an unbelievable angler anyway. All sorts of species n specimens.

Thats true there is after been alot of good anglers come from the club. Alan mulcahy, Robert Power, JP Molloy just to name a few. Baumans and Cormac Walshs were the two main tackle shops at the time and as was mentioned cormac also did chartering. As for Caseys thats a bit before my time. Its a pitty that for a town that has so many anglers in it that Baumans is the only one left (no offense) but it is a bit on the small side but the owner is a wealth of information for any angler.

Jaysus,

I've heard of two if not the three of them boys. Add in the lads from the city and theres some competition anglers from waterford. Maybe waterford would win an all ireland there now!!!

Its a pity for Seanie alright but at least O'Briens in waterford is not that far away. Another guy with heaps of info.

Slot of river stuff ok but all frozen sea baits, grippers hooks elastic. Few big reels and rods. Not bad at all really

is it salt water in it. the lagoon in millisle co down is like that it is a bit of a swimmin pool. loads of flatties, tiny pollack and coalies and gobies in summer and some mullet this year.

Err,

not exactly. Wot it was is that there was a saltwater swimmin pool built beside the road there years ago so they call the mark the swimmin pool. Its essentially a mark in the inner harbour. Def wouldnt be a lagoon. Plenty fish to be got in the area though!
