Weather:mild easterly, decent enough swell eventually settled down

Bait:lug, wraps, mussel, mackerel and sandeel

Rigs:three hook flappers for the most part with varying snood lengths

Results: 12 counters, consisting of dabs and whiting, god only knows how many undersize fish,30odd




Report: second year at this comp and after a decent performance at last years event taking a zone win and second overall i was convinced my lucky streak would come to an end. first cast for me set the tone for the day bringing two 16cm whiting. couple of casts later and i had my first counter, a little whiting of 23cm and then ian flood a couple of pegs down from me got a decent flounder of 28cm . fishing continued to remain dyer as time progressed and trying to get fish to size was tough going, an umpteen number of the little feckers kept measuring 19.9cm. before darkness came on i had amassed only the three fish to size and was sure i was blowing my chances of a decent finish.

decided to up the bait sizes and hook sizes from 4's and 2's to 1's, placed a small sausage of mack on each of my three hooks and lobbed it out, sure enough a double counter was on its way in 10 minutes later. for the last hour and a half i was hitting at least one counting fish every second cast and was still convinced lads up form me where running away with it as they too where hitting good numbers of fish, fortunately for me they couln't get them to size. Boycie two zones up from me and my team member, was going neck and neck with me all day, by half 6 we had 10 counters each and his overall length was longer. manged another two fish in the end and was happy enough with that. i was far as i know stella marris A won the team event, for the second year running. ended up with the zone win myself so was happy enough, and i think boycie won his with his ten fish, happy days!! could stay for the presentation so confirmation would be handy,

mr bunny did a sterling job protecting the rod tips and tending to the dead, after about 40 anglers had there way with the fish for 5 hours, the beach resembled the opening scene of saving private ryan, whiting whiting everywhere

Great report eric you have pretty much said it all.Fishing was constent but unfortunetly alot of the fish coming ashore were undersize,very frustrating when you are pulling in doubles and trebles and not one counter.For the second year running Stella maris A TEAM did it again consisting of Stewart Kealy,Ronan Doherty,Peter Bolger and Martin Graham with Peter Bolger winning the individual (13 fish) and longest fish (31cm whiting) a nice few quid peter well done.Congrats to eric and boycie who gave a good account of themselves,well done lads.I will post full results in the next couple of days
