Waterford bass mark 23.12.08

#1 Post by craigo »

People:myself & stephen

Duration:5 til 11

Tide:half 8ish low water

Weather:very mild

Bait:lug razor and fresh peeler

Rigs:flappers & pulleys

Results:1 bass

Report:Got to the mark there was a lovely steady surf rolling up the beach it just looked perfect for a few bass :)
Set up straight away had a few casts before I got any bites , the first bite was very aggressive the rod tip just dove about a foot then kept hopping by the time i picked it up the line had gone slack . I reeled into weight and struck , FISH ON
another couple of reels later the fish was gone! dont know what happened . I peeled another crab lashed it to the remaining crab on the 5/0 pulley sent it back to roughly the same spot , after a few mins I got nearly the same bite again the rod tip dove nearly a foot then started hopping . I lost that fish too . The next cast was with lugworm another really aggressive bite landed this fish a bass of around 3.5lbs who really didnt wanna be coming ashore . No more bites for me after this . Stephen had a coalie before we left . I have pics but i dropped my camera now it doesnt wanna work . Ill
have to ask santa for a new one
HAPPY CHRISTMAS to EVERYONE

:P Craig :P
If I'm not gonna catch a fish , I may aswell not catch a BIG fish !

did you use pennell set up ? size 2/0 pennell hook can improve those dropped bites ,then again they do get your heart pumping and keep you focused  good session lads 8)

Thanks lads , the heart was thumpin after the first bite alright good to get one fish at least . :)

Roger de doger I didnt even think of putting a 2/0 on to the snood and making it into a pennel I should have done that after the first missed fish . I usually do use a pennel was just trying out a new hook Sakuma manta extra 5/0 might try them on the penn next time .

Its only the 2nd time ever fishing that spot good results the first time shoulda landed a few more by the looks of things the last time but as you say they were right infront of me and the they werent fussy bout what they were feasting on Right buzz!
